Ruckingenur II

Rock and Roll Reverse Engineering
Ruckingenur II is a game of “rock and roll” reverse engineering of electrical circuits. Use the “hypermeter” to measure voltages, create pulses, monitor serial data, and debug chips. Filled with exciting, low-budget, live-action video sequences.
Requires: .NET 2.0, running as Administrator on Windows Vista and later

Make Your Own Ruckingenur Levels
The Ruckingenur Editor is a level editor for creating levels to be played via the Ruckingenur Player, which closely resembles Ruckingenur II. A few notes:
- The only “hidden” feature is that you can hold down shift while dragging a circuit board, project box, or chip to drag everything that is on top of it along with it.
- While widgets are placed with default DisplayLevel values, you may sometimes have to tweak them to get things to stack the way you want – widgets with higher DisplayLevel values are placed above those with lower DisplayLevel values.
- When two widgets with the same DisplayLevel overlap, they will flicker.
- When running a .ruck level, the Ruckingenur Player searches for a file called “script.lua” in the same directory and uses that as the script. The file “ruckapi.htm” in the zip file provides documentation for scripting Ruckingenur levels.
- Sounds and images that you add should be added to the same directory as the .ruck file.
- Check out the level1-remake folder for a full remake of level 1 from Ruckingenur II built in the Ruckingenur Editor.
Requires: .NET 2.0

Ruckingenur CE

With Five User Created Levels
The release of the Ruckingenur Editor coincided with a contest inviting fans of Ruckingenur II to create their own levels. A year later, Ruckingenur CE, containing five user created levels, was assembled and released as a stand-alone game. The Ruckingenur Editor is NOT required to play Ruckingenur CE. Levels by Ariel, Jonathan, AJ, and Fredrik.
Requires: .NET 2.0

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed that.
A bit easier than your other games, but it’s unique and interesting.
I’m currently hacking through the CE, whilst hoping you’re planning a part 3.
for some reason this game cant run on my windows vista computer (lousy errors) ive tried installing twice and came up with zip
is there something im missing?
You probably need to run the game’s .exe with elevated privileges. Just right-click the .exe, choose Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and check the checkbox near the bottom that is labelled ‘Run this program as an administrator’.
The cause of this problem results from the game being written on Windows XP, where it was okay for a program to write whatever it wanted to into Program Files. Vista doesn’t like it when programs do that.
ill give it a shot *gives shot* nope… sorry…
if it helps… it failed to initialize properly

thanks for the help though :)
It sounds like you don’t have .NET installed.

IT WORKS! thx zach…
ive worked my way to mission 4 and ive blown myself up a few times (heh heh) once i finish ill be looking forward to a creation of my own
thx again
aaaaand im stuck :(
Find where you put in the authentication code that matches a challenge, then figure out how to get challenged. You won’t have long to enter the code.
wait, I think I ran into a bug on the first CE mission. I beat it by SPOILER. It seemed way too easy… like I had bypassed something else in the challenge.
And why specifically does it need to be run in admin mode?
Because it was written back when XP was still the predominant MS operating system, and on XP, it’s okay for a program to write to files that are buried under Program Files. Vista requires that programs doing so be run with elevated privileges.
tl;dr: If you don’t run it in Administrator Mode, it won’t save your progress and may crash the game.
Thanks a lot, it always crashed once I completed the first level (I assume it wanted to save.) Anyways for anyone who does not want to run it in administrator mode, you can install it somewhere else like to your desktop and it will work (what I did)
The editor/player doesn’t work under 64 bit Windows because they have been flagged “any cpu” and not “x86″. It can be changed by the command line tool corflags (google it) like this:
corflags RuckingenurEditor.exe /32bit+
corflags RuckingenurPlayer.exe /32bit+
It’d be great if that could be fixed in the download so that not everyone has to do it themselves.
I am german and I know that Ruckingenur is not a proper word. Maybe you meant “Rückingenieur” but that isn’t a proper word either. There is no german word for reverse engineer. Perhaps they are called “Techniker” but that didn’t hit the spot.
im stuck on level 1
the 2nd chip says the code is 1394 but when i enter it in it does nothing
nevermind i looked at the debug and reilised that you enter the code backwards
How do I resize the window I cant see all the stuff at the bottom…
Is there a way to bypass the videos ?
i’d like to see your next game be a new version/pseudosequel for this in the manner of how Spacechem is a slightly different and much shinier version of Codex.
The game keeps crashing when I enter the code correctly in lvl 1 do u have any tips on how to make the game not crash?
Jan: Run the game as Administrator.
Everytime I beat the first level (I hear the “lock” unlock), the thing freezes and something comes up telling me that it stopped working. Am I doing something wrong?
Oh, Jan had the same problem. How do I run something as an Admin? (I feel smarticles)
Nevermind again. You right-click it. >.<
Sorry for any inconvenience.
How do I resize the window to fit on my laptop?
As a teacher-candidate (I’ll be teaching after one more year of school) for HS Physics and Math, I absolutely LOVE SPACECHEM! Is it possible to buy a site license for my students to play these games – some way that doesn’t require my students to purchase or get online to play (I plan to teach in rural areas, $$ and internet access will be barriers). I will totally pass this on to other Teachers if we can..
@BrianaJoy: This is definitely something we’re interested in pursuing. Please email me: zach@zachtronicsindustries.com
Thanks a lot for this game! It turned out ever more fun than I expected; too bad it’s so short.
Do you plan to hold more level contests?
Oh and also there’s a bug which causes the game to crash when you stick the debug probe to a non-debug point and left-click on the register window.
Why does the game crash when I beat the first level?
Oh and if it helps at all my spacebar switches between component menu and program menu
mission 4 is damn hard
I have .NET installed, but the Editor fails to load on Windows 7:

Is there any chance that you could get back to this for a few weeks (months?) and code this for 64bit or newer versions of windows/mac/Unix?
Please I want this for my Windows 7 x64.
@reinei: If I run the game as Administrator it works for me on 64-bit Windows 7. Might work for you?
I used the Corflags.exe version of this and It works fine :).
OH and quik and nice support,(You dont get that often if there are newer games out already)
Works fine for me on Windows 7 64 bit. So, where are these expansions the game speaks of?
The problem with SdlDotNet is because the game was configured to run with AnyCPU and is being launched in 64-bit mode, while the provided SDL DLLs are in 32-bit mode. The reason administrator mode is required is because the unlock data is being stored in the same folder as the EXE, which for non-administrators is usually read-only, instead of in the users’ AppData folder.
Just remembered playing Ruckingenur 1 & 2 ages ago and had to look it up again. Do you have any interest in porting it for iOS?
If so, I’d be very much interested with helping you out on that.
Absolutely love the game.
