SpaceChem: Statistics time!

In my previous statistics post I covered what the “average” SpaceChem solution looks like for each research assignment in the game. Today we will look at completion statistics!

I recently mentioned the fact that not many people finish SpaceChem, something we know through the power of statistics collection. Some commenters were interested in seeing these statistics (which have not been released until now), so I put together a few graphs this morning that show how many players have completed the different missions available in the game.

The metrics we collected for SpaceChem are a little sketchy with respect to accuracy, so I’ve decided not to put any numbers on the graph that shows the absolute number of players who beat each level. The data includes demo players, but possibly under-represents them because of some early bugs in our data collection system.

Click the graphs to embiggen them.

I am very happy that I am amongst the few that completed all the level. Can you share how many of us are there?

Wow, that’s an impressively level difficulty curve. (Judging by the second graph.) Well done.

I can’t think of any other developers who spend this much time detailing exactly the ways not only in which the game works, but in how the users actually *PLAY* it; I’m really so glad that I purchased this one, and I’ve talked it up to everyone I know.

Heh, I was expecting to see a huge spike on the TF2 levels, from people who bought the game just to get the items. Great to see that that isn’t the case.

I wonder how many people bought the game for that purpose but wound up enjoying it and playing some portion of the main game. It’s definitely a game that takes you by surprise when you start playing it.

As for me, I still haven’t finished the game, but I’m well into the “tiny little stubby bars” section. I must push onwards!

I seriously can’t wait until you guys come out with the next game! (hopefully spacechem 2 or something!). I’m actually not a puzzle game player at all but this game has me hooked. Awesome awesome game and I’m looking forward to the apparently very difficult levels.

I remember almost begging zach for some sort debug mode way back when we were making the game.

He really believed I could finish it, and I felt I’d disappointed him when I couldn’t, lol.

    Thanks for sharing the stats!
Just wanted to say I love this game so much. Not only is it challenging and mind altering, but now there’s finally a game that I’m better at than anyone else I know. It’s good to play a game that isn’t just twitch or spreadsheet management.
    Keep up the good work!

there’s also to consider that achievements farmers probably have looked on youtube for a fast solution so a few of them have reached the end “stealing” strategies from someone else…
I say this also because looking on some solutions on advanced levels ther are too many players with awesome results, i mean, too few moves, or too few blocks used, it’s too strange, i’m sure they copied from some stilled player that has posted solutions on youtube.
This will reduce even more the percentages!!!
I have still to finish it, i’ll do it sooner or later :)
