Spoiler alert!

By looking at our score collection metrics for SpaceChem, we’re able to tell how far people get through the game on an aggregate level. Unsurprisingly, not many people finish the game. One of the biggest problems with this is that many people start reading the story but then are unable to finish it, as progress in the story is gated by progress in the game.

Now that SpaceChem has been out for a year, we’ve decided to release a stand-alone version of the story. Curious what happens to Bruce and our nameless protagonist? Find out now!

Are you planning on publishing any statistics? It would be interesting to be able to see how much of the game you’ve completed compared to the general population.

@Jasharin: That’s not a bad idea! Is there anything else you’d be interested in seeing?

I know I’d absolutely love to see exactly how many people have beaten me on cycles in a given level and in general it’d be fun to make some graphs from a dump of anonymized statistical data — for instance, visualizing the drop-off in progression as the game goes along.

I’d also be curious to see how many people have actually beaten the game, it’s ~2% of Steam accounts, so I’d estimate something below ten thousand people, would be quite interesting to see (and potentially help stroke my ego, which I’m all for).

I had to cheat for the last level by looking at youtube :(

It would be great to have something like a ranking based on the number of solved levels…

The story is already easily accessible. I read the whole story with just the demo! It’s in a text file that comes with the game.
